Introduction and goodbye to 2013

2013 went quite well for me, fitness-wise, till I got sciatica and couldn't exercise for about 3 weeks in November!

I got a bike in January and love it!  I am lucky to have a job where I can cycle to jobs every now and then.  I'm getting recognised round town now, even get people come up and say hi....I have to admit, my bike is very cool!

At Easter we camped in -2c for a hockey festival - in a little 2-person tent, no mod cons for us this year!

In May I did the IronMay competition, which is basically doing an IronMan competition, but you have the whole of May to do it - some people managed to complete more than 1!

A "no tins" campstove cooking!

In June we had a camping holiday (same little tent) and I helped my boyfriend get to the top of Scafell Pike, which is the highest point in England.  He's diabetic, so I wasn't going to leave him to go on his own.  I wasn't impressed with the amount of rock climbing and walking across waterfalls involved, and then my knee locked up, so I basically hopped down a mountain!!!

this is rock climbing!
That's part of the Scafell Pike trail!

In October I started going to a bootcamp, and got up for a 6am start, 3x a week.  My fitness improved and I was even running 10 lengths of the hall by about 8/9 weeks.  I can hold The Plank for 60 seconds at a time now, and do plenty of squats, crunches and press ups.

hiding behind the Autoharp
In November I started to learn how to play the Autoharp!  That's a whole separate blog, I think!

I got sciatica and that's not nice, but could be worse, so I'm grateful it's not.  I decided not to continue bootcamp, but doing a DVD course that my friends have recommended.  I started it on 9 December 2013, so I thought it would be a good idea to follow my progress using a blog.  Gotta start somewhere!
